The Nigerian Red Cross Society has confirmed that at least 162 people lost their lives following a

violent attack on Kaima community in Kwara State, sparking fresh concerns over insecurity in the

region.

According to the Red Cross, its emergency response teams were deployed to the area shortly after the incident, where they carried out search, rescue, and evacuation operations. The organisation said many victims were found in residential areas, while several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention in nearby health facilities.

Residents described the attack as sudden and devastating, forcing many families to flee their homes in fear. Survivors said the violence lasted for hours, leaving homes destroyed and the community in shock.

Local authorities confirmed that security agencies have been sent to the area to restore calm and

prevent further attacks. The Kwara State Government also expressed condolences to the affected families and assured residents that investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Meanwhile, humanitarian groups have called for urgent support for displaced residents, warning that

many survivors are in need of shelter, food, and medical care.

The incident adds to the growing list of violent attacks affecting rural communities across Nigeria,

renewing calls for stronger security measures and improved early-warning systems to protect

vulnerable populations.
