Transportation Costs and Their impact on Students Daily Life.

By Akporido Joshua (240912158)

Students across Lagos have been struggling this week as sudden transport fare hikes

and long delays disrupted daily movement to campuses. From crowded bus stops to

unexpected price increases, many students say getting to school now costs more than

they budgeted for.

Several students at UNILAG and LASU reported missing early lectures after spending

hours waiting for buses, while others said they now leave home before dawn to avoid peak fares. “What used to be ₦500 is now ₦800 on a good day,” a student commuter said, adding that daily transport now eats into feeding and study expenses.

With most campus hostels filled up, off-campus students are hit hardest, forced to choose between paying higher fares or walking long distances. Education advocates are calling on transport operators and authorities to introduce student-friendly fares, warning that rising transport costs could quietly affect attendance and academic performance if the situation persists.
